Privacy policy
Last updated October 15, 2026. Glosira website and app.
Glosira helps you learn languages. We need data to save your progress, schedule reviews and fix errors. We do not sell personal data or use third-party advertising trackers.
1. Who is responsible for your data
This policy applies to glosira.com, the web app at app.glosira.com and the Glosira apps for Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac with Apple silicon.
Service owner: Andrew Gorbachev.
For questions about your data, contact: sensei@glosira.com.
2. What data we use
- Account. An identifier, username, chosen avatar, email if you provide one, and a password hash. Your password is sent to the server over a secure connection when you register or sign in; the database stores its hash.
- Learning. Selected courses, completed lessons, exercise and exam results, learned words and characters, review information, experience points, belts and your learning streak. Learning without registration also creates a guest record with an identifier and progress.
- Social features. Following other users, congratulations and related notifications.
- Reports and errors. The text of a submitted report, information about the exercise and answer, and technical error reports: the screen URL, app and browser versions, error description, and session and user identifiers when available.
- Technical logs and internal statistics. Your IP address when contacting the server, request time and URL, browser and device information, activity dates and feature usage events. Available link tags (UTM) and the referral source are saved at registration. This helps us understand how people find the service and where they encounter difficulties.
- Push notifications on Apple devices. We store an APNs token and an app installation identifier linked to your account on our server, along with technical notification sending records, including the last sending time and its recipient identifier. This enables delivery and helps prevent duplicate notifications.
We do not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone or precise location, collect your advertising identifier, or track your activity in other apps.
3. Why we need this data
Account data enables sign-in and saves your results. Learning data lets you continue your course and determines what to review. Social data supports friends and rankings. Reports and technical logs help us fix errors, protect the service from abuse and improve lessons. Internal statistics help us evaluate service usage and referral sources; they are not shared with advertising networks for personalized ads.
4. What other users can see
Social sections may show your username, avatar, languages you study, belts, experience points, streak, overall progress, registration date and follower and following counts. Do not use your real name if you do not want it displayed. Your email, password and technical logs do not appear on your public profile.
5. On-device storage and notifications
The browser and app save your sign-in token, settings, selected course and cached materials in local storage. This keeps you signed in and helps lessons load faster. Clearing browser or app data removes local information but does not delete your server account. For a guest account, clearing this data may cause you to lose access to your progress.
The Android app may show learning reminders and periodically contact our server to retrieve them. You can disable notifications in Glosira settings and in Android system settings. On Android versions that require it, the app requests notification permission. The operating system may back up app data according to your device settings and the policies of the provider of that feature.
On iPhone, iPad and Mac with Apple silicon, the app uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver learning reminders and app notifications. The app requests notification permission. The installation identifier and technical information used to manage its account association are also stored locally on your device.
You can turn off notifications in Glosira settings: once this setting is saved, the server stops new sends for your account, but the token and installation association are not automatically deleted. You can also disable notifications for Glosira in your Apple device’s system settings. Notifications already sent may remain in Notification Center.
6. Who receives your data
The owner and authorized administrators need access to data to maintain the service. Server and network infrastructure providers process data as needed to host the website, transmit requests and store information. Data may also be disclosed when required by applicable law.
Lesson audio is prepared in advance. Listening to a lesson does not send your answers to speech generation services. When you install through Google Play or use system features, Google and other providers may process data under their own policies.
To deliver push notifications, we send the APNs token and notification content to Apple. Apple processes this data to operate APNs under its privacy policy. When you install through the App Store, Apple may also process data under its own rules.
7. How we protect your data
The website and app use HTTPS to transmit data. Passwords are stored as hashes, and access to the server and database is restricted. Do not share your password or sign-in token or include them in exercise reports.
8. Retention and deletion
Data for an active account is stored to operate the service. After you confirm deletion, the account is disabled, and its data, including learning progress, remains on the server for three years from the date it was disabled. Data is not erased immediately. Technical logs are used for maintenance, error analysis and security.
You can request information about your data, corrections, or deletion of your account and associated data. Write to sensei@glosira.com. Instructions for deleting your account and data are under “Account deletion”. Include your username and explain your request; do not send your password. To protect your account, we will need to verify that it belongs to you.
You can disable your account in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. Enter your username to confirm. Access ends on all devices, and your profile is hidden from search, friends lists and rankings. Uninstalling the app does not itself disable your account.
When you sign out, the app requests that this installation be unlinked: once the server processes the request, it clears the installation’s push token and current account association. After you disable notifications in system settings, the app sends this request when it becomes active again and checks permission. If there is no connection or the request fails, it is saved on the device for retry when a network is available and the app is running; the server association may remain until the request is processed. When APNs confirms that the current token is no longer registered, the server also clears the token and current account association.
Unlinking does not erase all history: the server retains the installation identifier and technical records used to guard against outdated requests and duplicate sends, including the last recipient identifier and sending time, if recorded. There is currently no automatic deletion period for these technical records. Disabling an account stops new notifications for it, but does not immediately erase all push data. Uninstalling the app is not itself a request to delete server data. To request deletion of remaining push data, email sensei@glosira.com; you will need to verify account ownership.
9. Children and requests from parents
We do not ask for identity documents, date of birth or family information for learning. If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe a child has provided data that should be deleted, contact the service owner at sensei@glosira.com.
10. Changes to this policy
If our handling of data changes, we will update this page and its revision date. If a change requires a separate notice or consent, we will provide it in the service.
